Tote Bag - Cross Shoulder Bag - Miss Rose
Miss Rose knows that we like to smile, it's infectious - so what is the look on her face, the cat who got the cream - and your cream while you were looking away - plump, me? oh-no, fit as a fiddle! She's in the pink as they say. Miss Rose is not out of place anywhere where smiling is permitted, and she's always a work of art who catches the eye.
Tote or plain “carrying” bags have come a long way since the 17th century. They really began to flourish from the 1940’s when given a fashionable identity by a designer in the US, a Mr L.L.Bean. My Tote is a free-standing artwork with firm sides – it does not flop – it would serve no use as an artist’s canvas if it did. The 12” studded base is a rounded-off rectangle 5” wide – while the longer 16” top opening narrows to a 2” wide Viking long-boat shape requiring a clever re-shaping, narrowing and stitching at both ends. The charcoal colour, dimpled finish of the PU piping of the base, top opening and adjustable handles is stitched with a contrasting colour material which matches the buckles and the top closing zip. The handles have three adjustment positions at both ends (plus 2” left over to punch) to allow cross-shoulder use. The cream colour interior lining has one good size zip pocket and two open pockets. The dimensions are: top opening 16" (L 41 cm) x 5" base width (W 13 cm) x 10" height to rim of bag (H 26 cm). It derives its real strength from its structure and strong material - it weighs 34 Oz or 950 gm, almost a kilo.
There are times when ferreting around curio stalls or small, over-stocked collectables shops with dim lighting and virtually unreadable makers marks, as any curious collector or trader does, that you find something to purchase that needs to be kept safe and sound on its way back home or to the hotel or ship. A canvas bag is a bit dodgy as the contents can be knocked around, and keeping the item in a back-pack out of sight on your back too exposed – which is where my distinctive, strong Tote for collectors comes in. With a bit of bubble wrap brought from home to wrap the item my strong Tote is a real keep safe - and a work of art to be talked about in its own right.
