Boston Bag - Mimi
“From the Civil War through the Gay Nineties, the Boston Bag belonged to Bostonians alone. When a Back-Bay lady or a West End belle walks down Broadway in New York, or saunters through the streets of Chicago, she is known immediately… “That woman is from Boston–see the bag!” - Boston Daily Globe, 1892. Over the years, the Boston Bag’s shape changed little – “something of the quality of a valise and something of the quality of a portfolio.” "About a foot long and a foot high, it had a flat bottom, short handles, and a strap closure. Leather sometimes reinforced the bottom, and eventually, all-leather versions emerged”.
My Boston Bag adds a feature of a Louis Vuitton Boston Bag from 1992 - popper closing open pockets at both ends. The facings of both sides are made from a synthetic canvas to produce the distinctive feel of an artist’s canvas, while both ends and handles are made from a soft, high grade PU. It has a single zip top opening and a single zip pocket in its capacious lined interior. It measures 13.5" (L 34 cm) x 6.5" (W 16 cm) x 9" (H 23 cm) with handles down and weighs 18 Oz or 507 gm – it is light, spacious and strong.
But why join the crowds who have bought a Boston Bag?
*On the basis that appearance and style does matter, a bag that stands out from the crowd in a great design way, wherever you are, is worth a lot - and I believe my Boston Bag does that. What do you notice in the grand buildings of say Rome - the roof trusses (of course), the vast white walls (maybe), but the art and the soaring shapes, that's what takes the breath away.
*The flexible dimensions mean that it presently qualifies as the 2nd piece of BA permitted carry-on luggage - the same for ships.
*It has the style to impress at dinner and has the interior volume to carry something warm and weather proof for after dinner strolling - not to be under-valued if you are on one of today’s cruise ships given the distance back to one’s own cabin.
*My distinctive art will, I hope, be the opener of conversations with strangers, one of the nicest things about holidays.
*But my favourite use of the Boston Bag is as a Deck Bag or Promenade Bag or slow-motion shore excursion bag, an elegant mini-holdall for when one is soaking up the sun and sea air or the local culture – needing of course all the protective potions, the sun hat, the book, the glasses, the journal, the pens, the ever-hopeful phone, a small something just in case and so on and so on.
* PRICE INCLUDES FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE; Delivery time 20 days from the moment the order is placed.
