Moving countries is always interesting, exhausting, lonely, exhilarating and I am sure each and every immigrant can add to the list of feelings and emotions I have just mentioned.
I have always been impressed with the way the Brits tackle the subject of emigration. What they do is ... bring their hobbies, habits and pastimes with them in their suitcases . I am going to mention one of their pastimes I love and appreciate enormously ... their clubs!
One of the things one notices in England is the limitless number and themes of clubs and charities one can join .... starting with a simple one like a walking club - and ending with groups interested in the most bizarre subjects you can imagine. Whatever your passion is .. you can be sure to find a group of people who already meet and discuss this topic or participate in related group activities - I call it finding and being with your tribe.
Art is a huge catalyst for change and for creating small communities of common interest. I've been part of many art groups over the last 6 years and this has changed my life in a massive way.
Recently I came across (they found me actually - on line) a lovely group of mainly British artists (Brits who live abroad) from Fethyie, Turkey who meet on weekly basis and paint together. It is more than just about painting as I very well know ... it is about the camaraderie, about the joy and giggles, the sharing of stories, both good and challenging, and about supporting each other.
Today they decided to paint on big canvases, to create paintings inspired by my original art. It is a big compliment and I love seeing their interpretation. The final pieces are going to be ready next week but I am sure you will enjoy seeing the images above - because the story of the images is much bigger than artists painting, its about the art of living wherever you live - and it has been developed to perfection by the nation that is my new home country over hundreds of years. Can't wait to see the final paintings!
Art heals! Art creates communities! Art enhances lives! Art unites people! Start painting! What are you waiting for? Be bold and brave!
