The art reflects my upbringing as a child growing up in challenging times in Romania as the daughter of a Russian mother with a keen eye for good design, a mother who spent over forty years working in a “small” clothing factory in Bucharest with 20,000 employees !! supplying a worldwide market, a mother whose harsh upbringing in Russia cemented in her a daily reminder that we have to work to eat. Deep down the colours and fluidity of my work may also reflect my family DNA from Istanbul where my Greek great grandfather was, I am told, a reputable shoemaker.
Out of this melee of ancestry has emerged my own style of art. Along with other remnants of communism I long ago rejected the preciseness of the lines I drew to obtain my degree as a mechanical engineer - in favour of a style that recognises that life can be rough around the edges, that life is not perfect and to seek perfection may just hold you back, and that vivid colours in the actual and metaphorical sense are everywhere if you are observant while you are in crowded places jostling with people earning a living and dancing, a richness that is everywhere on the surface and below it.
Of course the art can be bought as original paintings, where the roughness of brush strokes and the synthesis of the multiple layers of paint and colours I choose can be seen first hand. But customers here are not here buying paintings, they are buying great bags where the whole creation makes them feel good, where the stories that are told by the bags and the colourful messages given out connect with our moods and unique personalities. BUT, if you would like to do so YOU CAN GET CLOSER TO THAT FIRST HAND VIEW OF THE ORIGINAL ART if you hover your on-line cursor over a bag image on a detailed bag page - and move it around. The image magnifies a bit thanks to today's technology. I hope you then enjoy what you see.
What's in the name? For years I have signed my paintings "Korina". As the art on the bags in the collection are by me, this is the name of the collection.
